Schools Fencing

For 10 years Chevaliers Fencing Club has been servicing the recreational and competitive needs of the schools of Brisbane. Chevaliers offers NCAS accredited fencing coaches that are trained to conduct group instruction within your school. All coaches are blue card certified and insured with both professional indemnity and public liability insurance.

Our fencing classes are offered obligation free. There is no commitment required by the school until there are a sufficient number of students to justify a class. We are very happy for schools to offer the sport and only provide coaches if the numbers warrant.

High School

Recreational
Chevaliers provides learn to fence programs that develop a sound understanding of the basics of the sport whilst maintaining a relaxed and enjoyable environment for the students to develop within. The class consists of a series of skill based progressions that allow the students to develop sound fencing basics as part of a week by week program. Chevaliers can run one time come and try activities, single term learn to fence programs or a term by term school club based program that encourages a greater understanding of the game and a more significant tactical awareness. Our single term learn to fence program is an ideal opportunity to provide an alternative to mainstream sports and upon completion, the students have a basic fencing proficiency and receive the Chevaliers Fencing Club Bronze Award. This program is ideally suited to Wednesday afternoon sport or after school sport programs.

Class numbers are limited to 20 students per class in order to maintain an appropriate coach student ratio. Chevaliers coaches are capable of accommodating both able bodied students and students with special learning needs (the assistance of trained care givers may be required). In the event that a greater number of students are interested more coaches and equipment can usually be provided.

Curricular
Fencing is an extremely assessable sport. The precise nature and timing of the actions make it very easy to determine the student’s ability to interpret and execute the fundamentals of the game. The syllabus of the Chevaliers Bronze Silver and Gold Awards are an ideal template for students to follow and provide a series of skill by skill progressions which can be finalised with a competency based assessment and the awarding of the certificate achieved.

The technical and tactical components of the game allow for a theory component that complements the physical aspects of the game and can again be finalised with competency based assessment.

Class numbers are limited to 20 students per class in order to maintain an appropriate coach student ratio.

Competitive
The Queensland Amateur Fencing Assoc. provides an excellent series of interschool team events and Chevaliers fencing Club offers a quarterly individual school students competition.

Chevaliers offers an after school club program that builds upon the foundation of our learn to fence classes. The progression of skill development is maintained as the students continue to achieve a better understanding of the competitive game. Schools working with Chevaliers Fencing club have continually performed well in both the individual competition, state team events and one of our schools has won and regularly places in the National Schools Competition Finals.

Cost
The cost of recreational, curricular and competitive classes is $110 per session. This includes the provision of coaches and all equipment required to run the class.

For curricular classes this includes all theory documentation for reproduction and distribution to the students.

Primary Schools

Before School
Studies have shown that participating in light sporting activities increases the metabolism which has a positive impact on the school day. A more active metabolism improves focus and the ability to maintain attention.

Chevaliers can offer one hour fencing classes that challenge and stimulate the student in preparation for their coming day. Our junior program is based on skill development and imaginative game play. This is not a competitively based program. Primary school students learn a modified version of the game of fencing through games and activities that introduce fundamental skills while focusing on enjoyment of the game. This modified game equates to our Musketeer Fencing Classes and as the students attain simple skills they are rewarded with certificates of accomplishment.

Afternoon Sports
Our modified learn to fence program challenges junior athletes to achieve simple fencing skills whilst participating in games and activities that encourage their imaginations and allow them to explore their idea of what the game is. This is a great way to finish the school day and provides a great exercise opportunity for the student. Daily exercise is an important part of any developing child's routine and Chevaliers adheres to the principals established in the Australian Governments Play for Life guidelines. This modified game equates to our Musketeer Fencing Classes and as the students attain simple skills they are rewarded with certificates of accomplishment.
